22/02/2004 - Lokomotiv Lancing 7 - WFCSA FC 1

WFCSAFC played their second ever match and slumped to a 7-1 defeat against Lokomotiv Lancing who will surely be more than a match for anyone in Worthing + Horsham Division 4 next season.

WFCSAFC were without Matt Saunders, Paul Jones (work) and Dave (injured) and top scorer Dan Earle failed to turn up. They were however able to include new signings Rhys and Bez who performed superbly.

The first half hour saw Lokomotiv push for an early goal but were thwarted by solid defending and alert goalkeeping from Rhys. As WFCSAFC struggled to forge openings it was just a matter of time until the first goal went in and it came in bizarre circumstances as Rhys was rounded, the Lokomotiv player shot but Greeny was on hand, literally, to push the ball round the post. The penalty was awarded and slotted home comfortably.

WFCSAFC were then forced to make the first of their many substitutions when Nick went off after suffering a bloody painful ball in the groin to be replaced by Steve Storey.

The second came a few minutes later and this made WFCSAFC react and pull themselves back into the game with a superb goal. Chids' corner flew straight to the head of an unmarked Dawson who nodded the ball home well from 6 yards. Just before half time Ollie came on for Lander.

The half time whistle blew and WFCSAFC were forced to make more changes with Nick returning for the injured Martin Andersen who had a good, solid game in front of the back four. Ollie also left the field to bring Lander back on. Minutes later Bez was forced off with a dead leg to be replaced by Dave Scane.

These enforced substitutions disadvantaged WFCSAFC immensely and conceded 5 goals in the first 25 minutes. WFCSAFC didnt' give up and following good work on the right from Chids, substitute Formoy's header fell straight to the 'keeper.

WFCSAFC can consider themselves unlucky after today, injuries marring an otherwise promising performance, which, in the first half hour could've brought more if there was a little more of a link between the midfield and attack.

WFCSAFC team news: No games planned at the moment. A possibility against a local works team and one against Lewes Wanderers, probably late in the season. Also we are entering a side at the Wealdstone 5 a side competition in the summer. Interested players, please contact me.

Line up: Starting 11 in no order. Rhys, Bez, Chids, Nick, Greeny(C), Martin Andersen, Fowler, Rich, Martin Lad, Dawson, Lander. Subs: Steve Storey, Scane, Formoy, Ollie, Shane.

Attendance - about 20
