A bad month – only two wins and the month in which the season was shaped. I missed much of it as I was in Germany including the two Hednesford games.

A long, long midweek trip to Trophy opponents Hednesford Town – one of our furthest ever away games. The few that could make it were treated to a really good performance AND a motivational speech from Victor G at half time. Now don’t say that WFC doesn’t spoil you all once in a while! A SAM FRANCIS goal gave the rebels early hope but the Pitmen equalized and it was back to Woodside Road for the decider.

Dulwich in the league on Saturday saw a number of key players rested and we lost 2-1 with GAVIN GEDDES on the scoresheet. All minds were firmly on the Trophy replay the following Tuesday though.

With Mark Knee and Chris Dicker unavailable, the Pookmeister remembered that he’d signed Clay Lamont earlier in the season and re-called him from a “loan” spell at Three Bridges. I don’t think they were overly impressed by this but he played well and has stayed with us ever since. Mark Pulling played with a broken arm (nutter!) and SAM FRANCIS scored again but sadly our visitors scored twice and we were out. Of course, Hednesford went on to win it so there was no disgrace but we could have and perhaps should have beaten them twice.

Away to Bromley next and the comedown was obvious as a dire game ensued with Daryl Plummer (loaned from Southend United) and Andy Ducille (loaned from Eastbourne Borough) making their Worthing debuts. This game was notable for a spectacular piece of bad sportsmanship from Darren Freeman who decided to shoot from an injury-induced drop ball.

A strong Crawley side were next up and a side that were to go on and win the Dr Martens Premier Division. An early MARK KNEE strike took the Rebels into the semi-finals as Crawley failed to impress.

Our next visitors were the far from stubborn Staines (Aylesbury 2000?) and we easily beat them 2-0 with goals from SAM FRANCIS and SHAUN GRICE. Again Matt Lovett in the Staines goal had a dodgy game as he always seems to against us and the Staines “massive” went home slightly deflated

Bracknell were up next in the Bryco Cup (don’t miss it!) and put in a very effective defensive performance in beating us 2-1 after extra time. A SHAUN GRICE strike just wasn’t enough as the Rebels had Mark Knee sent off for the first time in his WFC career for two bookable offences in what can only be described as a “questionable” refereeing performance.

So, out of two cups but still in touch with the Senior Cup and the League. Just what would happen in March?

League Record so far – P 28, W 15, D 8, L 5, F 51, A 27, Pts 53, GD +24
